Permissive Parenting Style

The permissive parenting style is sometimes called the indulgent style. In an attempt to give their children the freedom to think for themselves and learn from the consequences of their actions these parents do not set clear and consistent standards and limits. In an attempt to avoid confrontation and convey unconditional love, the parents allow children to make poor choices, ignore the rights of others and push the limits of acceptable behavior. Their children develop an unrealistic sense of self empowerment and do not learn acceptable ways of getting their needs met. What many parents don’t know is that setting boundaries, providing guidance and responding consistently is essential for children to have high self esteem and success in the world.
